About Coldwell Banker M.M. Parrish Realtors

M. Moorman Parrish, Sr. made the move from Kentucky to Florida in 1911. He moved to Gainesville for the unique opportunities and high quality of life this community provides. He soon convinced his father, James H. Parrish, to join him and the two opened a father-and-son real estate business that same year. As Gainesville grew, so did the business. Moorman Parrish became increasingly involved in the city's development and began building homes along the Boulevard, now known as Northeast Gainesville's historic "Duckpond" neighborhood. His crowning achievement of the decade was Golf View, a subdivision overlooking the new Gainesville Golf and Country Club, which later became the University of Florida Golf Course. In the 1950's, M.M. Parrish, Jr. (known as "M.") named the company M.M. Parrish and Associates, Inc. and, following in his father's footsteps, M. developed many popular Gainesville subdivisions, began a custom home-building business and a commercial construction business (M.M. Parrish Construction Company). Both were sold in the early 1980's. M. became known locally as "Mr. Real Estate", serving two terms as president of the local board, District 1 Vice-President of the Florida Association of Realtors, and Chairman of the Florida Real Estate Commission. An influential supporter of all aspects of Gainesville's economic development, M. helped bring new industries to the area. And his dedicated community involvement earned him The Gainesville Sun's Community Service Award. When H.H. Parrish died in 1971, his youngest son, James M. Parrish, (Jim) joined M. to establish a commercial brokerage operation for the Parrish company. Jim became the President of the company in 1980. In the two years following, they became the first COLDWELL BANKER affiliate in Florida and purchased Metroplex, their largest competitor. Under Jim's leadership, the company skyrocketed from employing twelve Sales Associates in 1980 to over forty by 1984, all the while continuing to help shape Gainesville's growth with subdivisions such as Farms of Kanapaha, Creekside Forest and the development of the Northwest Industrial Park. Jim continued the Parrish tradition of service to the local real estate community by serving as President of the Gainesville Board of Realtors, President of the Commercial Investment Members' State Chapter and as Gainesville's only ever President of the state-wide Florida Association of Realtors. He twice chaired the National Association of Realtors Commercial Investment Committee. After Jim's untimely death in January of 2000 and M.'s death in 2001, Gene Ritch became President and led the company through several successful, prosperous years. At that same time, Susan Parrish became the first female owner of the company and now also holds the position of Director of Community Relations. In this unique roll, she is the face of the company in the community and drives the company's charitable efforts and events. Susan is continuing the Parrish tradition of community service and helps make the area a special place for families to live. James M. Parrish, Jr. (known as "J.") is the fifth generation Parrish to be an integral part of Gainesville real estate and is currently the company's President and co-owner. Since he joined the firm in 1999, he has worked closely with both the Residential and Commercial divisions of the company and he dedicates himself personally to all of the building and development projects in which the company is involved. In 2001, Coldwell Banker M.M. Parrish Realtors acquired Santa Fe Realty in High Springs, in order to expand service in the growing areas to the north, including Columbia, Dixie, Levy and Gilchrist Counties. In August of 2004, the company opened a new Northwest Gainesville location in the Springhill Professional Center situated on the corner of NW 39th Avenue and 83rd Street. The company has now grown to include over 80 Sales Associates in two offices throughout the county. Our Realtors represent over 500 years of experience in Gainesville and Alachua County re
