Joe Garrett has accumulated more than four decades of commercial real estate experience.
After graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Real Estate and Finance, Mr. Garrett was hired by Valley National Bank of Arizona (Acquired by Chase Manhattan Bank) to assist in the creation and implementation of their Real Estate lending division for their internally managed Institutional and Private Pension Funds.
In in 1980, Joe moved to Dallas, TX to join The Travelers Insurance Company Pension Real Estate division.
In 1983 Joe established Garrett Realty Advisors in Dallas, TX. Garrett was chosen by Goldman Sachs to be their portfolio asset manager for the AT&T Telephone Real Estate Equity Trust "TREET" and Eastman Kodak Pension Fund. This assignment included property manager oversight, portfolio management, coordination of property improvements, and dispositions of a billion dollar portfolio of commercial office, retail and industrial properties throughout the midwest, southeast and southwest.
In the mid 90's Joe was chosen as the first franchise partner for Sperry Van Ness (SVN) in Dallas and continued the affiliation for 17 years.
In 2019 Joe re-joined Rand Sperry who had founded Sperry Commercial Global and brought invaluable experience in virtually all types of real estate assignments for major Institutional Investors, Family Offices, lenders as well as private, governmental and other pension advisory firms.
Mr. Garrett has often served as an industry expert, having appeared as a speaker on institutional grade real estate investments at a number of national conferences, as well as a contributing editor of an institutional real estate portfolio management book used by major universities as a textbook in executive MBA programs.
Mr. Garrett holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, considered the “producer’s master’s degree” and is active in the North Texas Chapter of CCIM. He is Past President, VP, Education Director and on the board of directors of the CCIM Institute.
Mr. Garrett is a member of the graduate chapter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He is a past member of the President’s Council of Dallas Theological Seminary, Past President of the Board of Trustees of the National Kidney Foundation, and has sat on the Greater Dallas Board of Realtors Ethics and Professional Conduct Review Board.
