Mr. Stephen J. Coates, CPM, CSM, CCIM, is President of Coates & Sowards, Inc., an AMO (ACCREDITED MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION), founded in 1977 and specializing in the management and leasing of shopping centers, office buildings, and industrial buildings in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Coates has an MBA from San Jose State University and holds the CSM (Certified Shopping Center Manager) designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers and CPM (Certified Property Manager) designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management. He is also a member of the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute and holds the designation of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member). He is a past member of the National Faculty of the Institute of Real Estate Management where he has taught Course 303 (Leasing and Management of Shopping Centers and Retail Space). He also lectures and teaches courses for the Building Owners and Managers Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Mr. Coates served as president of IREM’s (Institute of Real Estate Management) San Jose-South Bay Chapter in 1982 and 1983. In 1986 he was named the chapter’s “Manager of the Year.” He is a California Broker and has been managing real estate for 39 years.
