Full Profile
A 30-year veteran of the industry and co-founder of BARBERMURPHY, Wayne’s name is synonymous with commercial real estate in Southern Illinois. He is recognized by colleagues from the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) and other industry professionals as the person to call when there’s a deal to be made in any of the numerous communities across southern portion of the state, from Springfield to Edwardsville, Mount Vernon to Cairo, and everywhere in between.
Wayne has a long-standing history of promoting and representing businesses in the area, with a primary focus in industrial properties and development sites. That sector proved a natural fit for Wayne who, prior to joining the Southern Illinois brokerage community in 1988, had served as vice president of a national construction company specializing in the heavy industrial sector. He also was the longtime executive director of the Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA) representing major construction firms throughout Southern Illinois. Those experiences give him unique insight and market knowledge that benefits clients seeking to buy, sell or develop industrial facilities and properties in the region.
While Wayne has personally brokered countless deals during his three decades in the real estate industry, he considers one of his most significant to be his first major sales transaction, which involved the disposition of the storied Stag Brewery in Belleville, Ill.
He is past president of SIOR's St. Louis chapter and stays deeply involved with the growth and economic well-being of Southern Illinois and the Metro East portion of the bi-state St. Louis region through his volunteer work with local chambers and regional economic development organizations and business groups, such as the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois. He is past chairman of the Hoyleton Youth and Family Services Board, and director emeritus of the regional chapter of the ALS Association of Greater St. Louis, a non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Wayne is a resident of Shiloh, Ill.
"Always be truthful and candid and you never have to be concerned with what you said in the past. Always return phone calls regardless of the source of the call." ~ Wayne Barber, Jr., SIOR
